What is technology scouting?

Technology scouting: a key approach to corporate innovation in the years ahead

Technology scouting (or startup scouting) is a “process that identifies, evaluates, and selects skills, knowledge, and technologies that are valuable for the company’s future. The goal of technology scouting is to discover and integrate external solutions to address internal challenges.” (Lucas Colney, Open Innovation Advisor at Centech)

Why do technology scouting?

Concrete innovation

Technology scouting helps to instill a culture of innovation within your company. First of all, discovering new technologies or solutions enables you to foster collaborations and integrate new ideas or solutions internally.  Moreover, unlike technology watch, scouting allows you to explore tangible solutions, thus offering a much higher potential for collaboration.

Save money

Identifying the technologies that are most relevant to your business sector enables you to avoid unnecessary development costs or the acquisition of technologies that don’t meet your specific needs. As a result, you’ll be able to optimize your budget and enhance your profitability.

Highlighting the best solutions

Technology scouting, in conjunction with technology watch, enables you to identify the major players in future trends, allowing you to approach them before your competitors do. The in-depth work of technology scouting allows you to evaluate various solutions and highlight the best ones.

Our methodology

At Centech, we’ve built up our scouting expertise over the years. By continuously developing and refining our processes, tools, and methodologies, we are able to respond to any scouting request.

1

Defining needs

  • Initially, Centech will assign a project manager to your request. We will understand your needs and propose the most relevant methodology for your request. We will align ourselves with your expectations and define the selection and relevance criteria.
2

Identifying solutions

  • Following this alignment, we'll identify the startups most relevant to your needs. Our team of experts will pre-screen the results to offer you only the most pertinent options. The aim is to save you time and avoid providing an endless list of solutions. Based on your feedback on the initial results, we can conduct several iterations to refine and enhance the search.
3

Getting in touch

  • If you wish, we can also take care of contacting the solutions that interest you. Given that entrepreneurs are increasingly solicited for various projects and collaborations, it can be challenging and time-consuming to reach them. At Collision Lab, we've developed a special methodology at this stage to improve our conversion rates. Additionally, we can leverage our extensive network of contacts and partners.
4

Connecting people

  • Finally, we'll put you in direct contact with startups that interest you and are interested in collaborating with you. This can be done in various formats, according to your preference. We can connect you with startups directly, or organize pitch sessions or calls for applications.

Why work with startups?

Commercial application

Startups are driven by commercial imperatives, and need to prove the viability of their ideas under real market conditions. This pressure drives them to be innovative, pragmatic and results-oriented.
The solutions you’ll encounter will be tailored to the realities of the market.

Access to cutting-edge technologies

Collaborating with startups offers privileged access to innovative technologies, often before they are available on the market, giving you a competitive edge, but also the chance to explore new innovation opportunities ahead of your competitors.
